MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin women’s basketball team will play at Miami in the eighth annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Thursday, Dec. 4, in Coral Gables, Florida.
“Miami is a very formidable opponent and that’s a tough place to play,” UW head coach Bobbie Kelsey said. “Their coaching staff does a great job of getting them prepared and ready to play and so will we. It should be a very competitive game.”
The Hurricanes were 16-15 in 2013-14, finishing eighth in the ACC at 8-8. Miami lost to Stetson in the first round of the WNIT in 2014. The Canes return their top four scorers in 2014-15, including sophomore Adrienne Motley. The 5-foot-9 guard averaged a team-leading 11.1 points per game as a freshman.
The Badgers were 10-19 in 2013-14, including a 3-13 mark in the Big Ten to finish 11th. Kelsey returns 10 letterwinners and three starters, including first-team All-Big Ten pick Michala Johnson. The 6-3 forward averaged 16.6 points per game as a redshirt junior.
UW is 0-1 all-time against the Hurricanes, losing in the final of the Miami Holiday Invitational on Dec. 29, 2012.
Wisconsin is 4-3 all-time in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge after defeating Boston College, 74-59, in the Kohl Center last season.
The ACC has dominated the Challenge, winning six of seven seasons, with the 2011-12 challenge ending in a 6-6 tie. The ACC won 7-5 in 2013-14 and 2012-13; 6-5 in 2010-11; 7-4 in 2009-10 and 2008-09; and 8-3 in 2007-08.
