MADISON, Wis. - This past week the University of Wisconsin Athletic Department held Bucky’s Buddies Skills Clinics for women’s hockey and women’s basketball on consecutive nights. Both events were sold out in advance.
The women’s hockey clinic was held on Jan. 7 and nearly 100 children participated in an on-ice session. The clinic featured instruction by the Badger coaching staff and players. Each participant rotated through several stations including passing, an obstacle course, puck-handling and a goalie station. After the clinic, the kids enjoyed autographs and a pizza party with the team.
The next night the women’s basketball program hosted their clinic with nearly 250 kids participating in the on-court clinic. The clinic was led by Head Coach Bobbie Kelsey, her staff, players, and an appearance by Bucky Badger himself. Each participant rotated through several stations that emphasized the fundamentals of the game of basketball including passing, dribbling, defense and of course, shooting, but the main theme stressed throughout the night by Coach Kelsey was to have fun. After the clinic the kids enjoyed autographs and a pizza party with the coaching staff and team.
