CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Badgers (11-3 overall, 1-2 Big Ten) wrap up a tough week of Big Ten Conference play in which they will have played three games in seven days. UW completes a two-game road swing playing at Illinois (9-3, 1-1) today. Tip off is at 3 p.m. from Assembly Hall in Champaign, Ill.

Here's a glance at what each team brings to the table.


  • Sunday’s game will be the third in seven days for the UW. Wisconsin upset No. 16 Michigan State 62-54 on Dec. 28 before losing at Iowa 61-51 this past Thursday.
  • The loss at Iowa dropped the Badgers into a tie for seventh in the Big Ten standings. No. 6 Ohio State is the only team that remains undefeated in conference play after downing previously unbeaten Northwestern on Thursday night.
  • UW was held to a season-low 51 points at Iowa this past Thursday. Wisconsin also shot a season-low 33.9 percent from the field and turned the ball over a season-high 24 times.
  • Wisconsin is 0-2 on the road this Big Ten season and 4-2 on the road overall.
  • The Badgers have struggled from the free throw line the last three games. Wisconsin is shooting just 55.0 percent from the line (33-of-60).
  • UW upset No. 16 Michigan State on Dec. 28, the Badgers’ first win over a ranked opponent this season.
  • Wisconsin receives four votes in this week’s ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll.
  • Junior Alyssa Karel has scored in double-figures in a team-leading 12 games this season, including the last six games in a row. She has 20-or-more points in five games, including the last three straight.
  • Wisconsin ranks 14th in RPI according to RealTimeRPI.com. UW is also 11th in strength of schedule.
  • Junior Tara Steinbauer recorded the fifth double-figure rebounding game of the season at Iowa this past Thursday. The 6-2 forward shared team-high honors with 10 boards.


  • The Illini (9-3, 1-1) have only played two Big Ten games this season, splitting the matchups. Last week, Illinois lost to No. 6 Ohio State before coming back to defeat Penn State.
  • Illinois has yet to play a Big Ten game away from Assembly Hall. The Illini started the conference season with three straight home games before playing at Indiana on Jan. 7.
  • Illinois lost its season-opener at Temple in overtime before winning seven straight during the non-conference season. The Illini have split their last four games, recording two wins and two losses. Illinois lost to Marquette at home on Dec. 9, 65-55.
  • Senior Jenna Smith, a 6-3 center, averages a double-double with a team-leading 20.9 points and 11.9 rebounds per game. The 2009 All-Big Ten pick, also shots an impressive 53.8 percent (93-of-173) from the field and 85.3 percent (58-of-68) from the line. Smith has an NCAA-leading 10 double-doubles on the season.
  • Freshman Karisma Penn, a 6-2 forward, adds 12.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
  • Senior Lacey Simpson, a 6-1 forward, chips in 9.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Simpson leads the team with 4.3 assists and 3.3 steals per game. She also shoots the most 3-pointers on the team, connecting on 14-of-32 for 43.8 percent.
  • The Illini have one of the top-ranked freshman classes in the nation, though they have lost two newcomers. The class, which was ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation, is missing Amber Moore (ACL injury) and Destiny Williams (indefinite leave of absence). The freshman class of Penn, Adrienne Goldbold, Kersten Magrum and Brianna Jones combine to average 22.0 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
  • Illinois leads the all-time series with Wisconsin 30-27. The Illini lead 17-8 in Champaign.
    In 2008–09, the Badgers won both meetings last season for the first time since 2004. Wisconsin trounced the Illini 53-38 in Champaign on Jan. 1, 2009 and won 61-43 in Madison on Jan. 18.
