MADISON, Wis. -- In its final test run of the preseason, the Wisconsin women's basketball team overcame a slow start to defeat Concordia-St. Paul 60-47 Sunday afternoon at the Kohl Center. Freshman Nicole Bauman and junior Morgan Paige led the Badgers with 17 points apiece.

It was a performance by Bauman that head coach Bobbie Kelsey wasn't surprised by.
"I've seen it all preseason," Kelsey commented on Bauman's performance. "I know that kid can shoot. She hits shots and she has a high motor and she can play the point and the two.
"She can bring the ball down but she's a defender a lot of her points come off of running the floor and getting easy baskets so everyone can learn from that and do the same things she's doing."
After a slow first half, Wisconsin's offense was sparked with a jumper in the paint from Cassie Rochel with 14:44 remaining in the second half. The Badgers went on a 12-0 run, with half of the points coming from Paige and Wisconsin was up 50-32 with 10 minutes left in the game.
The next 10 points came from free throws from Bauman and Jacki Gulczynski and jumpers from Paige and Tiera Stephen. The Badgers held Concordia-St. Paul to a 29.1 shooting percentage and forced 20 turnovers on the game.
Wisconsin made the first shot of the game, but didn't lead again until AnnMarie Brown made a 3-point shot and put the Badgers up 22-21 with 4:45 left in the first half. Brown's shot sparked the offense and Wisconsin ended the half with five points from Bauman, leading 29-23.
The slow start was something that Kelsey knows the Badgers need to overcome.
"I told them you can't wait, you can't say we're going to start playing when they start, when they come out, you've got to play!"
The Badgers scored 19 points off turnovers in the game, as well as scoring 27 of the total 60 points off the bench. Wisconsin out-rebounded Concordia-St. Paul 48-42, with 11 rebounds from Gulczynski and 10 from Brown.
With one week remaining before the season starts, the Badgers have some work to do.
"We've got to work on our defense," Kesley said. "The offense will come and that's a little bit ahead of the defense, but a lot of times defense is just effort it's just hard effort and energy and fight and for whatever reason we don't have those individuals yet that are willing to just fight and claw and scrap."
Wisconsin tips off its season next Sunday, Nov. 11, against Milwaukee at 6 p.m. at the Kohl Center. All general admission tickets are $1 in honor of Veteran's Day.
