MADISON, Wis. -- In a game that saw 10 ties and 12 lead changes, the final lead change is all that mattered for the Wisconsin women's basketball team Wednesday night. The Badgers defeated Indiana 65-60 at the Kohl Center, handing the Hoosiers just their second loss of the season.

The win evened the Badgers at 2-2 in Big Ten Conference play (9-7 overall) and dropped the Hoosiers to 1-2 (14-2).

"We're happy to get this win," said UW head coach Bobbie Kelsey. "Obviously it was a hard fought game for us. We really need it after dropping two Big Ten games. It's not going to get any easier from here on out, but if we can keep it close, we can give our self a chance and we kept it close."

Keep it close the Badgers did. The first half ended with three ties and five lead changes as Wisconsin trailed by two, 24-22.

A quick layup by Michala Johnson, 21 seconds into the second half, tied the game for the fourth time.

The back-and-forth play continued until another layup by Johnson, this one with 2:34 remaining, gave the Badgers back the lead for the final time. Wisconsin stretched its lead to five, 60-55, on a free throw by Nicole Bauman with 46 seconds to go.

A pair of free throws got the Hoosiers within one, 61-60, with 21 seconds remaining. But Morgan Paige sank two free throws with 21 seconds left and Johnson added an insurance layup with eight seconds remaining to seal the win.

Wisconsin was led by a season-high 23 points from Jacki Gulczynski. She finished the night tying a season high with 13 rebounds, recording her third double-double of the year. Whyte and Paige each finished in double figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

"One thing about Jacki though is she did work extra on her shot and catching her rhythm and shooting," said Kelsey. "And that's what she did tonight, so credit her. That's what people don't see and that's why she had this game tonight.

"But we always have confidence in Jacki. We were waiting on this game and hopefully she'll keep it going because she is a talented player and there's no reason for her not to be confident."

Indiana was led by Larryn Brooks' 14 points while Alexis Gassion added 13 points.

The Badgers finished the night shooting 37.9 percent (22-of-58), including a 7-of-22 (31.8 percent) performance beyond the arc. Indiana shot 23-of-68 (33.8 percent) and hit just 3-of-19 (15.8 percent) from 3-point range.

Free throw shooting proved to be a difference maker as Wisconsin went to the line 19 times, making 14 for 73.7 percent, while Indiana was 11-of-13 for 84.6 percent.

Wisconsin was outrebounded 43-37, allowing Indiana 16 offensive boards. Both teams committed 12 turnovers and swiped six steals.

The Badgers continue Big Ten action on Saturday when they travel to Northwestern for a 2 p.m. game at Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Ill.
