Head Coach Lisa Stone Post-game Quotes
On Wisconsin's performance in the second half: "We really did [take control]. What we talked about was in the first half, both teams looked like it was an even toss-up when it came to energy. We challenged our team to step it up both offensively and defensively and find some ways to deny them hard.
"Michigan's a very good defensive team and we found some offense. Taylor Wurtz was unbelievable for us and it was a good match-up for (Carmen) Reynolds. I thought she did a great job defensively and obviously the fans saw that she scored a lot of points for us, but I thought her defense was very good as well and rebounding--she had nine boards and 27 points off the bench. That's pretty neat. Again, Taylor was the catalyst for us, but then we started finding some other ways to score as well. Alyssa (Karel) had a tough first half, but found a way to take the cover off the basket in the second half. I just thought we were very, very solid offensively and defensively."
On having two bench players scoring in double figures: "These kids work all the time and Taylor is one that is in the gym every single day. When you see it rewarded here to the great crowd we had today and the fans, it's awesome. I was happy for Jade (Davis) as well. She gave us good energy defensively. That first 3 she had hung up there for a while and when it went down, it just opened up the floodgates for her. We have a great group of good women. When you have a different star every single night, that's good for us. It all boils down to defense again. When you hold a team like Michigan to under 50 points, that says a lot about our team and our commitment to defense."
On rebounding from the loss at Illinois last week: "Well, you have to do that. Whether it's a win or loss, you have to put the game behind you and move on to the next one. Already, we'll enjoy this for a little while but we have to get ready for a tough Michigan State team, who played Ohio State pretty well the yesterday. The Big Ten is one where there's no days off, there's no nights off. We'll get back to work right away. I'm very proud of our players. Great crowd, again, thanks for coming and go Packers."
Michigan Head Coach Kevin Borseth
Opening Statement: "They got 41 bench points, we got eight. End of story. They played extremely well. We didn't. We played absolutely awful. Maybe they caused or maybe we caused it ourselves. I'm not sure, but the videotape will tell us."
On Taylor Wurtz's performance today: "Her next 27 will come a little bit tougher, I promise you that. But she's a good player and she went off tonight. Green Bay had beat them and they went right at her and that was the difference in that game. She couldn't stop anybody or do anything in that game. I thought that we probably needed to do that same thing, but we didn't do a very good job at it. She kind of took it at us and made a whole bunch of shots, so we'll have to make the next 27 (points) she gets a little bit tougher. But they won't come easy. First time, shame on them; second time, shame on us. Isn't that the way it goes? We'll make sure it's not shame on us. But they played pretty well."
