MADISON, Wis. -- The fourth-annual Wisconsin adidas Invitational is fast approaching as the Wisconsin men’s and women’s cross country teams prepare to host the nation’s most elite collegiate competition at the Zimmer Championship Course next Friday, Oct. 12.

The No. 1-ranked UW men’s team will run the 8-kilometer race against 46 other schools, including 19 of the 30 teams ranked in the most recent USTFCCCA national coaches’ poll, as well as another six teams that received votes. In addition to the Badgers, the race features five other top-10 teams: No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 5 Iona, No.5 Portland, No. 8 Stanford and No. 10 Syracuse.

At last year’s meet, then No. 2-ranked Wisconsin ran away with the team title in convincing fashion. The Badgers finished with a team score of 66 points, distancing themselves from BYU’s 120-point second-place finish.

The Badgers ran as a group and crossed the line together as senior Ryan Collins, junior Reed Connor and senior Elliot Krause finished in 23 minutes, 46 seconds, claiming 11th, 12th and 13th place, respectively. Junior Mohammed Ahmed finished 14th in 23:47 and junior Maverick Darling finished 16th in 23:48.

The No. 29-ranked women’s team will run the 6-kilometer race against 49 other schools, including 20 of the top 30 teams in the most recent USTFCCCA national poll, as well as another five teams that received votes. The race features six top-10 teams, including No. 2 Arizona, No. 3 Washington, No. 5 Iowa State, No. 7 Stanford, No. 9 Cornell and No. 10 Michigan State.

Last year, the women’s team finished 29th overall behind a 29th-place individual finish from senior Caitlin Comfort in 20:44. Washington won the team title with 199 points.

The Wisconsin adidas Invitational will also include “B” races for both men and women.
