MADISON, Wis. -- Fresh off his first race for the No. 7-ranked Wisconsin men's cross country team, redshirt freshman Michael Brice has been named Big Ten Co-Runner of the Week, the league announced.
Brice ran a personal-best time of 25 minutes, 5 seconds to take the win in the 8-kilometer race on UW's own Zimmer Championship Course last Friday.
The performance was part of a sweep of the top five finishing positions for the Badgers, who took the team title with a perfect score of 15 points.
Brice shares the Big Ten's first weekly honor of the season with Penn State junior Vince McNally. He is the first Badger to earn the weekly conference award since Matt Withrow on Oct. 2, 2007.
A native of Kaukauna, Wis., Brice redshirted the 2009 cross country and 2010 track and field seasons for the Badgers.
The UW men's team returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 2, when the Badgers host the second-annual Wisconsin adidas Invitational at the Zimmer Championship Course.
