After many months of construction, the Tom Talbot Wrestling
Complex, with the Lee Kemp Wrestling Room, is set to re-open Friday, Sept. 28
during the Wisconsin Wrestling Alumni Weekend. The grand re-opening ceremony is
set for 4 p.m. with a reception following in the brand new Heritage Hall. The
public and media are encouraged to come see the renovated facilities.
The Tom Talbot Wrestling Complex initially opened in Nov. 1996 and included a spacious locker room, study rooms and a 3,000 square foot mat space. With the renovations, the Wisconsin wrestling team now has an even larger locker room, a training room that looks out onto the mats and new offices for the coaching staff. The Lee Kemp Wrestling Room is a completely new addition and was made possible by two lead gifts of former Badger wrestlers. This new feature will pay tribute to every letter winner that has passed through the Wisconsin wrestling program.
Many other events celebrating the Wisconsin wrestling program are slated for the weekend of Sept. 28-29 for alumni. The weekend kicks off with a University Ridge Golf Outing for wrestling alumni, a reception in the new Heritage Hall and a dinner tribute to former UW wrestling coaches Duane Kleven and Russ Hellickson as well as the most storied Badger wrestler, Lee Kemp.
