MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin wrestling’s Tyler Graff received his draw for the opening round of the World University Games in Kazan, Russia, Thursday.
The three-time All-American Graff, who is competing in the freestyle 60 kg/132 lbs., competition, will wrestle Valodya Frangulyan of Armenia on Friday in his first bout. Frangulyan was a bronze medalist at the 2012 Junior Worlds tournament.
Graff qualified to compete in Russia after winning the 60 kg freestyle title at the 2013 ASICS University National Championships in May. Graff put together a spectacular 6-0 run, winning three matches by technical fall and conceding only two points prior to the championship series. Graff then won the best-of-three title series, two matches to none, over Purdue’s Case Quiroga.
The Loveland, Colo., native was also strong offensively, scoring 47 offensive points in his six matches.
