MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin's Jesse Thielke claimed the top spot in his weight class at the U.S. World Team Trials this past weekend, thereby earning a spot on the U.S. roster for the 2013 Senior World Championships later this summer.

Thielke went 3-0 to take the title in the in the 60kg/132 lbs., Greco Roman bracket and punch his ticket to Budapest, Hungary.

"Everything just fell into place for me," Thielke told TheMat.com. "I've been training hard and preparing to peak for this. I'm always trying to make the highest level I can and now I'm here."

In a finals series that took the full three matches to be decided, Thielke prevailed over Ryan Mango with a 7-4 decision in the decisive third match.

"This is a great accomplishment for him," head coach Barry Davis said. "He's taken his game to a whole new level."

In an intense and gritty championship series that featured a number of momentum changes, it was Thielke's aggressive offensive style that was the key to his victory over Mango.

"He learned to keep his composure," Davis said of Thielke. "He had to make adjustments throughout the tournament, and he did and it worked very well.

"Jesse is not scared to lock up and throw and score points."

With the first place finish, Thielke is now the first Wisconsin wrestler to qualify to compete in Greco Roman at the World Championships since Mike Houck claimed the gold medal at the 1985 championships.

From here, Thielke will take a well-earned week off before returning to his Greco Roman training before the World Championships.
