MADISON, Wis.-- Following the NCAA Division I Wrestling Selection Show, Wisconsin senior Ben Jordan (23-10) received one of four at-large bids to wrestle in the NCAA tournament at 165 lbs.
Jordan did not receive an automatic qualifying bid at the Big Ten Wrestling Championships because he did not place in the top eight in his weight class.
A total of 40 wrestlers were selected by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee to receive at-large bids based on their head-to-head competition; qualifying event placement; quality wins; results against common opponents; winning percentage; RPI; coaches ranking and the number of matches contested at that weight class. A total of 33 wrestlers will compete at each weight class.
In the first round, Jordan faces Wyoming’s No. 2 seed Shane Onufer, who has just one loss in 32 matches this season.
Redshirt sophomore Cole Tobin will represent the Badgers at heavyweight at the NCAA championships, after receiving an automatic qualifying bid at the Big Ten Wrestling Championships. Tobin will wrestle Kent State’s Brendan Barlow in the first round.
The NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships take place on March 15-17 in St. Louis, Mo.
