WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.-- Official brackets and seeds for the 2012 Big Ten Wrestling Championships were released on Friday afternoon following a coaches meeting. Competition begins on Saturday at 9 a.m. (CT) at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind.

Freshman Austin Hietpas will face Purdue’s No. 7 seed Camden Eppert in the first round at 125 lbs. Hietpas has yet to win a conference match this season, while Eppert is 3-4 against the 125 lbs. field. Eppert defeated Hietpas by a 17-2 (6:32) tech fall earlier this season.

At 133 lbs., junior Shane McQuade takes on Ohio State’s No. 1 seed Logan Stiebler in the first round. McQuade holds a 0-7 record against the field, while Stiebler has won 10 of 11 matches against conference opponents this season. McQuade and Stiebler did not face each other this year.

Redshirt freshman Thomas Glenn will wrestle Penn State’s No. 8 seed Bryan Pearsall in his first match at 141 lbs. Glenn is winless in Big Ten Conference matches this season, while Pearsall posted a 3-4 record against the field. Pearsall defeated Glenn by a 4-2 decision earlier this season.

No. 12 seed freshman Frank Baer faces Ohio State’s No. 5 seed Cam Tessari in the opening round at 149 lbs. Baer has not wrestled in a Big Ten bout this season, while Tessari holds a 4-2 record against conference opponents.

Redshirt sophomore Shawn Perry will take on Nebraska’s No. 3 seed James Green in the first round at 157 lbs. Perry won two of his nine conference matches this season, while Green has just one loss in seven Big Ten bouts this year. Green defeated Perry by a 5-8 decision earlier this year.

No. 4 seed senior Ben Jordan will wrestle Purdue’s Kyle Mosier in his first match at 165 lbs. Jordan split his Big Ten matches this season, going 4-4, while Mosier lost all six of his regular season conference bouts. Jordan and Mosier have not faced each other this season.

At 174 lbs., No. 12 seed redshirt freshman Frank Cousin faces Ohio State’s No. 5 seed Nick Heflin in his opening match. Cousins was winless in the regular season against Big Ten Conference opponents, while Heflin went 6-3 against the field. Cousins and Heflin did not face one another this year.

Redshirt freshman Timmy McCall takes on Minnesota’s No. 1 seed Kevin Steinhaus at 184 lbs. McCall has yet to win a conference match this season, while Steinhaus posted a 7-0 record against Big Ten opponents. Steinhaus defeated McCall earlier this season by a 17-5 major decision.

Redshirt sophomore Jackson Hein wrestles Indiana’s No. 2 seed Matt Powless in the first round at 197 lbs. Hein has a 0-7 record against the field at 197 lbs., while Powless went 8-1 against Big Ten opponents in the regular season. Hein and Powless did not wrestle each other this season.

No. 12 seed redshirt sophomore Cole Tobin will face Northwestern’s No. 5 seed Mike McMullan in the first round at heavyweight. Tobin was winless in the regular season in Big Ten competition this season, while McMullan earned a 4-4 record against the field. McMullan defeated Tobin earlier this season by a 7-3 decision.
