EAST LANSING, Mich.-- The Wisconsin wrestling team continued to impress on Sunday, rolling over Michigan State, 30-7, to claim its second-consecutive Big Ten Conference win. The Badgers claimed victory in eight matches, including seven straight to open action.

No. 19 Ryan Taylor got Wisconsin (8-3) off to a hot start with a major decision over Hermilo Esquivel at 125 lbs. No. 5 Tyler Graff followed with a 23-9 major decision over Garth Yenter at 133 lbs. and the Badgers found themselves with an early 8-0 lead.

Jesse Thielke posted a technical fall over Brian Gibbs at 141 lbs., TJ Ruschell won by decision over Matt Pasqualini at 149 lbs. and No. 10 Isaac Jordan won by major decision over Roger Wildmo at 157 lbs. to give Wisconsin a 20-0 lead heading into intermission.

At 165 lbs., Frank Cousins defeated Bobby Nash in sudden victory and at 174 lbs. Scott Liegel claimed a 10-0 major decision over Kevin Nash.

With the Badgers leading 27-0, Michigan State (6-3) scored its first win of the afternoon at 184 lbs. when John Rizqallah won by decision over No. 15 Jackson Hein.

Timmy McCall got the Badgers back on the winning side of things with a 3-2 decision over Nick McDiarmid at 197 lbs.

The biggest upset of the day came in the biggest match of the day. In the only bout featuring two nationally ranked wrestlers, No. 6 Connor Medbery was upset by No. 11 Mike McClure at heavyweight to give the Spartans their second win. Medbery entered Sunday’s match with an unblemished 15-0 record.

Sunday’s match concludes Big Ten action for the Badgers until the new year. Wisconsin will take nearly three weeks off before resuming competition at The Midlands Championships on Dec. 29-30.
