AMES, Iowa.-- The Wisconsin wrestling team (5-12, 0-8 Big Ten) completed the 2011-12 dual season with two dual losses against Iowa State and Northern Iowa at the NWCA National Duals Midwest Regional in Ames, Iowa, Sunday afternoon. ISU defeated UW, 36-3, in its first dual of the afternoon, followed by a 30-15 loss to Northern Iowa. The Badgers won a total of five matches at the National Duals.

At 197 lbs., redshirt sophomore Jackson Hein won his second and third-straight matches of the season. Hein defeated ISU’s Trevor Voelker by a 10-6 decision and earned a 4-1 decision over UNI’s Taylor Kettman. Hein’s two victories give him a 10-10 overall record and 9-8 dual record this year.

No. 11 senior Ben Jordan posted a 1-1 record at 165 lbs. at the NWCA Duals, falling to ISU’s No. 4 Andrew Sorenson by a 3-2 decision and defeating UNI’s Riley Banach by a 3-1 decision. Jordan finishes the 2011-12 dual season with a team-best 22-8 overall record and a 10-5 record in duals.

Redshirt freshman Frank Cousins also earned a 1-1 record against Iowa State and Northern Iowa at 174 lbs. Cousins was shut out by ISU’s No. 5 Chris Spangler by an 8-0 decision in his first bout, but followed it up with his team-leading fourth pin of the season against UNI’s Onni Prestidge at 2:44. Cousins has a 10-13 overall record entering the Big Ten championships, but has not won a conference bout this season.

Redshirt sophomore Cole Tobin won one of his matches at heavyweight. Tobin fell to Iowa State’s No. 12 Matt Gibson in his first bout by a 5-2 decision before defeating UNI’s Blayne Beale by a 5-1 decision. Tobin enters the 2012 Big Ten championships with a 7-13 overall record and a 0-8 Big Ten conference record.

Freshman Austin Hietpas lost both of his matches on Sunday, falling to Iowa State’s No. 12 Ryak Finch and Northern Iowa’s Cruse Aarhus at 125 lbs. Finch defeated Hietpas by a pin in the first period that came at 1:36, while Aarhus edged out Hietpas with a 3-2 decision that came down to riding time. Hietpas enters the 2012 Big Ten championships with a 0-14 overall record and a 0-8 Big Ten conference record.

Junior Shane McQuade also lost both of his bouts at 133 lbs., losing by a decisions and fall. McQuade dropped his first match to ISU’s Shayden Terukina by an 8-5 decision and UNI’s No. 11 Joe Colon by pin at 3:41. McQuade finishes the 2011-12 dual season with a 5-17 overall record.

Redshirt freshman Thomas Glenn ends his first NWCA Duals with an 0-2 record at 141 lbs. Glenn was shut out in his first match, losing to Iowa State’s No. 17 Luke Goettl by a 10-0 major decision. In his second bout of the afternoon, Glenn was pinned by Northern Iowa’s Levi Wolfensperger at 3:35. Glenn ends the dual season with a 0-13 dual record at 141 lbs.

Freshman Frank Baer lost his second and third dual matches of the season to ISU’s Joe Cozart and UNI’s Ryan Jauch at 149 lbs. Cozart pinned Baer in his first bout at 4:21, while Jauch won by a 6-2 decision. Baer dropped all three of his matches as UW’s 149 lbs. starter.

At 157 lbs., redshirt sophomore Shawn Perry fell to Iowa State’s Michael Moreno by a 13-2 major decision in Wisconsin’s first dual. Redshirt freshman Alex Yde wrestled at 157 lbs. against Northern Iowa, losing to David Bonin by fall at 4:37. Perry enters the Big Ten championships with a 9-14 overall record, while Yde has an 0-3 dual record.

Redshirt freshman Timmy McCall lost both of his matches at the NWCA Duals, falling to Iowa State’s No. 15 Boaz Beard and Northern Iowa’s No. 6 Ryan Loder at 184 lbs. He lost his first match to Beard by a 7-2 decision and was pinned by Loder at 6:11. McCall ends the dual season with an 8-15 overall record, including one Big Ten conference victory.

The Badgers take a week off before traveling to West Lafeyette, Ind., to compete in the 2012 Big Ten championships on March 3-4.
