MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- Rolling from their victory over No. 9 Ohio State on Friday, the No. 23 Badgers (9-4 overall, 3-1 Big Ten) continued their success against No. 2 Minnesota (6-0, 3-0) through the first two matches but came up empty handed from there on out, falling by a score of 28-6 at the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis, Minn. Sunday afternoon.

No. 11 Ryan Taylor got things going for the Badgers at 125 lbs., with a decision over Jordan Kingsley by a score of 3-0. It was his first shutout this year, moving the redshirt freshman to 11-2 this season.

No. 6 Tyler Graff followed that up with a close, 3-2 victory over No. 10 David Thorn at 133 lbs. The victory was Graff’s first over a top-10 opponent this season in two tries. He improves to 4-0 in the Big Ten.

The Gophers were able to win out from that point on and recorded four major decision over the next eight matches. No. 10 Connor Medbery suffered a defeat by the smallest deficit by losing by decision 4-1 to No. 1 Anthony Nelson at heavyweight. Every other match would be decided by at least four points.

After Graff’s win at 133 lbs., the Badgers would go up against two top-5 wrestlers in No. 5 Chris Dardanes at 141 lbs., and No. 2 Nick Dardanes at 149 lbs. Jesse Thielke was even with Chris Dardanes early on but ultimately fell by decision, 14-9, while Rylan Lubeck dropped his bout by a score of 12-4.

After losses by TJ Ruschell at 157 lbs., and Frank Cousins at 165 lbs., the Badgers would have to close out the dual with four matches against top-10 opponents.

No. 5 Logan Storley won by decision over Scott Liegel at 174 lbs., by a score of 9-5 before Dylan Iczkowski fell by major decision to No. 10 Kevin Steinhaus at 184 lbs.

Timmy McCall and Medbery were then met with No. 1-ranked opponents. McCall got off to a strong start but fell by major decision to Scott Schiller by a score of 15-7 at 197 lbs., before Medbery dropped just his second dual meet match of the season.

The Badgers get back into action on Jan. 24 at Indiana. That dual is set to begin at 7 p.m. (CT).
