MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men's track and field team will host five meets in Madison for the 2013 season as part of the schedule announced Friday by head coach Ed Nuttycombe.
UW will host four meets during the indoor season, including the team's first two competitions of the year. The Badger Track Classic opens things for the Badgers on Jan. 12, with the annual Wisconsin Elite Invitational the following weekend, Jan. 18-19.
In addition to their four home events, the Badgers will take part in three of the nation’s top indoor meets in February. That stretch begins with the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., Feb. 1-2, followed a week later by the always-fast Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash.
The Red & White Open is set for Feb. 15 and serves as UW's final tune-up for the 2013 Big Ten Indoor Championships, which take place the following week and for the first time will be hosted at a neutral site at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio, Feb. 22-23.
A final opportunity to qualify for national championship competition follows a week later, as the Badgers host the Wisconsin NCAA Qualifier on March 1. The 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships are set for March 8-9 in Fayetteville, Ark.
The defending Big Ten outdoor champions, UW will begin the outdoor season with two meets in southern states and will travel to California for six meets between March 29 and April 28. These meets include the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays, April 18-20, and the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational on April 28.
UW then hosts the annual Wisconsin Twilight Invitational on May 4 before competing in the 2013 Big Ten Outdoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio. The three-day competition is set for May 10-12.
Championship season continues with the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas, from May 23-25 and, finally, the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 5-8.
The 2012 USA Outdoor Championships, set for June 19-23 in Des Moines, Iowa, rounds out the Badgers' competition schedule.
