MADISON, Wis. -- The opportunity to host the Big Ten outdoor championships highlights the Wisconsin men's track and field team's schedule for the 2012 season, which was announced Tuesday by head coach Ed Nuttycombe.

The Badgers' slate includes six meets in Madison, a schedule that culminates with the 2012 Big Ten Outdoor Championships the weekend of May 11-13.

UW will host four meets during the indoor season, including the team's first two competitions of the year. The Badger Quad opens things for the Badgers the weekend of Jan. 13-14, with the annual Wisconsin Elite Invitational following a week later on Jan. 21.

The Red & White Open is set for Feb. 17 and serves as UW's final tune-up for the Big Ten indoor championships, which take place the following week and will be hosted by league newcomer Nebraska in Lincoln, Feb. 25-26.

A final opportunity to qualify for national championship competition follows a week later, as the Badgers host the Wisconsin NCAA Qualifier on March 3. The 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships are set for March 9-10 in Boise, Idaho.

UW will ride out the early portion of the outdoor season with four meets in southern states, a run highlighted by the highly-competitive Florida Relays and Sea Ray Relays, hosted by Tennessee, over back-to-back weekends in April.

The Badgers' other high-profile competitions include the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays, April 19-21, the 103rd running of the Drake Relays, April 25-28, and Stanford's Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational on April 29.

UW then hosts the annual Wisconsin Twilight Invitational on May 5 before welcoming the Big Ten championships back to the McClimon Complex for the first time since 2002. The three-day competition is set for May 11-13.

Championship season continues with the NCAA West Preliminary Round event in Austin, Texas, from May 24-26 and, finally, the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, June 6-9.

The 2012 USA Olympic Trials, set for June 22 through July 1 in Eugene, Ore., rounds out the Badgers' competition schedule.
