MADISON, Wis. -- Four student-athletes from the University of Wisconsin men’s track and field program have earned All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the group announced on Wednesday.

Senior Elliot Krause was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic squad for the fourth time during his career, while junior Reed Connor earned his third honor. Redshirt freshman Andrew Brekke and junior Brian Leung are first-time selections to the team.

The four honorees earned spots on the Academic All-Big Ten team in 2013, while Krause was named to the Capital One Academic All-America First Team last month and was a 2013 recipient of the prestigious Big Ten Medal of Honor.

Krause wrapped up his Wisconsin career at the 2013 USA Outdoor Championships with a 19th-place finish in the 10,000 meters. He also claimed fourth in the 10,000 at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships. His final collegiate season was limited by injury, but Krause was an All-American in 2012 with his sixth-place showing in the 10,000.

Connor captured All-America honors in the 5000 meters last month at the NCAA outdoor championships clocking in at 13:50.70. He finished runner-up in the 5000 meters at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in May, and was seventh in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational in March.

Brekke won the shot put at the Yellow Jacket Invitational with a personal-best throw of 55 feet, 1 1/2 inches. He also claimed fourth-place finishes in the discus at the Wisconsin Open, with a personal-best performance of 170-2, and at the Yellow Jacket Invitational. Brekke placed second in the weight throw with a personal-best toss of 61-1 ½ at the Cyclone Classic during the indoor campaign.

Leung won the 5000 meters at the Wisconsin Open with a season-best performance of 14:44.87. He achieved a personal-best in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational clocking in at 29:49.20. During the indoor season, Leung finished seventh in the 5000 at the Big Ten championships, clocking in at 13:58.18.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA performance list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

A total of 448 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic squad. The Big Ten saw 70 athletes honored, the most of any conference.
