MADISON, Wis. -- For the second-consecutive year, Wisconsin's Elliot Krause has earned Capital One Academic All-America honors.

The Appleton, Wis., native was named to the Capital One Academic All-America second team on Wednesday, as the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced honorees in men's track and field and cross country.

He was named to the Academic All-America third team as a junior last season.

Krause was eligible for the Academic All-America squads, which are selected by CoSIDA's Academic All-America committee, by being named to the Capital One Academic All-District team in May.

To be eligible for Academic All-America honors, athletes must have reached sophomore status at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher. Krause holds a 3.74 GPA in mathematics and philosophy.

Krause gives UW an Academic All-American for the fourth-consecutive season. In all, the Badgers have seen seven athletes earn a total of 14 Academic All-America accolades since 2000 -- including five first-team honors.

Krause enjoyed his best season of competition in 2011-12, earning All-America honors with a 17th-place finish at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championship to help lift Wisconsin to the national title. He was also third at the Big Ten championship, as the Badgers secured their 13th-consecutive conference crown, and helped UW to a ninth-straight NCAA Great Lakes Regional title by finishing ninth.

On the track, Krause earned All-America honors by finishing sixth in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA outdoor championships. He also was integral to UW's run to the Big Ten outdoor title by finishing runner-up in the 10,000 meters and fifth in the 5000 meters at the conference meet.

A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection in cross country, Krause also scored Academic All-Big Ten honors in track for the second-consecutive season.

In addition, he has been an All-Academic pick by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association four times -- earning honors in both cross country and track in each of the last two years. He will again be eligible for the honor in July.

Krause also contributed to the UW men's cross country team being named Scholar Team of the Year by the USTFCCCA for the 2011 season.
