2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Teams
MADISON, Wis. -- University of Wisconsin senior Jack Bolas has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District men’s track and cross country team for the second-consecutive season, it was announced Thursday.
Bolas, who went on to earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second team honors last season, will once again be included on the ballot for the national award.
The honor comes on the heels of Bolas being named Academic All-Big Ten for the sixth time in his career on Wednesday, as he has earned three academic all-conference citations each in cross country and track and field.
A zoology major, Bolas finished his academic career at UW in May with a 3.67 grade-point average, and he will wrap up his athletic career next week at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.
The Chapel Hill, N.C., native is coming off a strong showing at the NCAA Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas, last weekend and owns the second-fastest seed time in the 1,500 meters for next week’s NCAA championships.
Despite a late start to the outdoor season because of injury, Bolas scored his first career individual Big Ten title when he won the 1,500 meters at the conference meet last month. He also was a Big Ten champion indoors, as he anchored the Badgers’ distance medley relay to victory at the indoor conference meet in March.
A three-time All-American on the track, Bolas also was named to the inaugural list of Big Ten Distinguished Scholars last season and is a two-time All-Academic selection by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Bolas is one of 10 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selections from District 5, with each of the district honorees now eligible for Academic All-America consideration.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), in voting by the organization's membership from each district.
