MADISON, Wis. -- His collegiate career may have come to an end, but the awards continue to roll in for Wisconsin senior Elliot Krause.
Krause was named Thursday to the Capital One Academic All-District team for District 6, earning a place among the district honorees for the third-consecutive year. The all-district team, selected by a vote of the membership of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), honors student-athletes who show proficiency in both athletics and academics.
Krause is now eligible to earn Capital One Academic All-America honors for a third-straight year, with the prestigious national team selected from the pool of all-district selections.
The Appleton, Wis., native graduated earlier this month with degrees in mathematics and philosophy, as well as a certificate in computer science.
Krause earned the seventh Academic All-Big Ten award of his career -- spanning cross country and track and field -- on Wednesday and is also in line for a third Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honor. He is also eligible to earn a sixth All-Academic honor from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association when those awards are announced this summer.
A qualifier in both the 5000 meters and 10,000 meters for last week’s NCAA West Preliminary Round, Krause saw his collegiate career come to an end at the meet in Austin, Texas, when an injury prevented him from completing the 10,000. Krause was seeking a second-straight NCAA championships bid after scoring All-America honors with a sixth-place finish in the 10,000 at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Earlier this year, he was a second-team All-American in the 5000 meters at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships as the Badgers grabbed a podium spot with their third-place team finish.
For his career, Krause scored as part of four Big Ten championship teams in cross country and helped UW claim four NCAA Great Lakes Regional crowns, securing three first-team All-Big Ten nods and two first-team All-Great Lakes Region honors along the way.
On the track, Krause contributed to UW’s dramatic win on its home track at the 2012 Big Ten Outdoor Championships with an All-Big Ten and runner-up finish in the 10,000 meters and also scored in the 5000 meters as part of the Badgers’ win at the 2013 Big Ten Indoor Championships.
In all, Krause scored for UW at six Big Ten track meets and qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Round in the 10,000 meters in each of his four seasons.
Members of the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America team for cross country and track will be announced June 27, following a vote by members of CoSIDA’s Academic All-America Committee.
