DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Badgers opened up the 2014 Drake Relays at Drake Stadium with two successful performances in the distance races on Thursday.
Freshman Colette Richter finished 13th in the women's 5000 meters and set a personal-best mark in the process. The Mountain Lakes, N.J., native ran the race in 16 minutes, 47.44 seconds, which is just under eight seconds faster than her previous best in the event. She ran the 5000 meters in 16:55.43 at the Florida Relays earlier this month.
On the men's side, Jacob Naylor, competing unattached, was 15th in the 10,000 meters in 30:22.42. Trent Lusigan was the winner in 29:55.69.
The UW throwers open up action on Friday at the Triton Invitational in San Diego, Calif., while a distance crew will continue competition at the Drake Relays.
