AMES, Iowa - The Wisconsin duo of Charlie Foss and Ben Schreib finished just where they had started in the heptathlon Friday at the Bill Bergan Invitational at the Lied Recreation Center in Ames, Iowa.
Foss and Schreib, who sat in third and fourth place, respectively, through four events Thursday, completed the seven-event discipline on Friday in the same positions.
Foss finished third overall with a personal-best total of 5,025 points, while Schreib placed just behind in fourth with a score of 5,004. The redshirt sophomores each set personal records, topping the totals they had set at last year's Big Ten indoor championships.
The duo began the day with the 60 hurdles, where Foss finished third in a personal-record time of 8.58 seconds, while Schreib crossed the line fifth in 8.96.
Next, in the pole vault, Schreib took third by clearing 13 feet, 9 1/4 inches, while Foss cleared 13-1 1/2, good for fourth place.
In the 3000 meters, the final event of the heptathlon, Schreib placed fourth, clocking in at 2:57.08. Foss finished in sixth with a time of 3:04.58.
Kansas State senior Devin Dick won the heptathlon by totaling 5,505 points, while Taylor Sanderson, a sophomore from Iowa State, earned a runner-up finish with 5,245 points.
Competition on the track resumes Saturday at 10 a.m. with the 3000 meters.
