Joe Samaniuk returns for a fourth season on the University of Wisconsin men's track and field coaching staff as a volunteer assistant. He specifically assists the Badgers in the pole vault.
Samaniuk came to the UW following a successful collegiate career at Virginia Tech, where he was an NCAA championships qualifier and two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer from 2003-2007. He finished sixth at the ACC outdoor championships both as a junior in 2006 and a senior in 2007, while he recorded a third-place finish at the conference indoor meet during his senior campaign.
Twice a qualifier to the NCAA East Regional, Samaniuk finished seventh with a clearance at 17 feet, 1 inch during his junior season. As a senior, he cleared 17-5 to claim third place, all-region honors and a berth in the NCAA outdoor championships.
His collegiate-best clearance of 17-5 1/2, set during his senior season, still ranks fifth on the Hokies' all-time list.
Samaniuk has continued to compete in the pole vault since graduating from Virginia Tech and owns a personal-best mark of 18-0.
A native of Rexford, N.Y., Samaniuk earned undergraduate and master's degrees from Virginia Tech in chemical engineering and currently is pursuing a doctorate at the UW.
