Big Ten Indoor Tournament | Brackets
MADISON, Wis. - The Big Ten Indoor Tennis Tournament kicks off play Friday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium, as the Badgers host eight conference teams in singles and doubles play, Nov. 2-5.
The tournament opens to a full morning of doubles play on Friday, with singles matches beginning in the afternoon and running through Monday's championship.
In addition to Wisconsin, participating Big Ten teams include Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Penn State and Purdue.
Wisconsin's Alexander Kokorev and Penn State's Ramy Labana pair up Friday in doubles play against Indiana's Daniel Bednarczyk and Elliot Yee, while the Petr Satral/Alexander Kostanov team and fourth seeded Jakhongir Jalalov/Oskar Wikberg pairing both have byes in their first rounds.
The Badgers also have five players competing in singles play this weekend including a fifth seeded Wikberg and an 11th seeded Satral. While both Wikberg and Satral have first-round byes, Jalalov, Kostanov and Kokorev will begin competition Friday afternoon in the first round.
The Badgers have had a strong fall season highlighted by wins at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic and impressive showings by the team's three freshmen. Wisconsin is looking to continue its recent successes including Wikberg's defeat of Michigan's nationally ranked Alex Patrone during his last time out and Jalalov's undefeated run at the Wildcat Invite last weekend.
