The Wisconsin mens tennis team continued play at the 2004 Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships today in Ann Arbor, Mich. Freshman Jeremy Sonkin (Wheaton, Ill.) and senior captain Alex Kasarov (Burgas, Bulgaria) both competed in the singles main draw.
Sonkin won his first round match, beating Avrey Ticer of Minnesota, 6-4, 6-7(4). Unfortunately, Sonkin was unable to advance through the second round as he fell to Mike McCarthy of Indiana 6-4 6-4.
Kasarov, meanwhile, battled in three sets with Indiana States Anton Tsymbalov but was defeated 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.
The Badgers continue play tomorrow in the second round of the doubles championships. The duo of Jordan Raemisch (Middleton, Wis.) and Mike Weinig (Aurora, Colo.) take on Michigan State's Formanczyk and Rinks. The Badger pair defeated Northern Illinois Ford and Tate, 8-5, on Friday to proceed to Sundays competition.
