University of Wisconsin freshman Elliott Bisnow (Bethseda, Md.) beat Adam Ford of Northern Illinois today in the qualifying round of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. Fellow freshman Felipe Bellido was not as fortunate, however, as he fell to Tom Murphy of Dayton, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
Bisnow won his match 7-6 (3), 6-1, and will face Josef Fischer of Michigan at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Eight players will advance from the qualifying round to the main draw, which begins on Saturday.
UW's Alex Kasarov (Burgas, Bulgaria) and Jeremy Sonkin (Wheaton, Ill.) were previously selected for the main draw.
The Badgers also have three doubles team competing in tomorrow's main doubles draw. Alex Kasarov will team up with his younger brother, sophomore Lachezar Kasarov (Burgas, Bulgaria). Also competing are the Jordan Raemisch (Middleton, Wis.) and Mark Weinig (Aurora, Colo.) duo and the freshman tandem of Bisnow and Sonkin.
