The University of Wisconsin mens tennis team competed in its second day at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Saturday. The Badgers were led by a freshman quartet as Jeremy Sonkin, Felipe Bellido, Eric Bisnow and Brian Ko all won their individual matches against the Spartans of Michigan State.
Jeremy Sonkin got the Badgers off on the right foot as he defeated Cameron Marshall in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 6-0. Up next for the UW was Lima, Peru native, Felipe Bellido facing MSUs Nick Rinks. Bellido won in three sets as well, 6-3, 6-7(5), 7-6(8).
Elliot Bisnow won his match in straight sets defeating Michael Flowers 6-4, 6-1, while freshman walk-on Brian Ko won his second match of the Invitational as he defeated Mike Brown in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles action, two Badger tandems earned victories against Notre Dame. Teammates Mark Weinig and Jordan Raemisch defeated UNDs Andrew Roth and Patrick Buchanan 8-5. The Badger pair of Brian Ko and Alex Kasarov earned a victory over Jimmy Bass and Barry King by a score of 9-8 (4).
The Badgers begin their third day of competition at the Michigan Invite tomorrow at 9a.m. against Western Michigan.
