The Badgers wrapped up play in the Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas on Sunday. Of the three players, junior Moritz Baumann and sophomore Marek Michalicka were playing in the doubles A draw, while junior Michael Dierberger finished play in the consolation rounds of the B draw.
After two strong days of play, the No. 39 ranked team of Baumann and Michalicka looked to finish their weekend on a high note as they faced off against Fresno States Rudy Siwy and Mirko Zapletal in the final round of the doubles A draw. Baumann and Michalicka continued their strong play, and defeated Siwy and Zapletal 8-5 in Sundays final round, making them the weekend's doubles champions. Together, the two went undefeated, finishing with a doubles record of 5-0. In singles play, both Baumann and Michalicka were eliminated in the third round with finishing records of 2-1.
Also on Sunday, Michael Dierberger concluded his pay in the singles B draw consolation rounds. Dierberger went up against James Wilson from Texas Tech in the consolation semifinal round. After losing the first set 7-6, Dierberger battled back to take the second set 5-7, but could not pull off the victory as he fell in the final set 1-0. Dierberger ended the weekend with a singles record of 2-2, and a doubles record of 0-1.
As the weekend concluded on Sunday, the Badgers were pleased with their results. The team played well against many of the nations top players, especially Moritz Baumann and Marek Michalicka who came away as the tournaments doubles champions.
