The Badgers continued play at the Baylor Invitational on Saturday in Waco, Texas. All three Badgers competed in singles matches, while the pair junior Moritz Baumann and sophomore Marek Michalicka competed in doubles play.
Both Baumann and Michalicka, who were continuing in the 3rd round (16 players) of the A draw, were defeated in their singles matches. No. 28 ranked Baumann fell to Attila Bucko of the host school Baylor in straight sets. Baumann forced tiebreakers in both sets, but couldnt pull out a win as he was defeated 7-5, 7-6. No. 72 ranked Michalicka faced off against the No. 1 ranked Oleksandr Nedovyesov of Oklahoma State. After winning the first set 3-6, Michalicka was shut down, as he was defeated in his next two sets 6-3, 6-3. Junior Micheal Dierberger continued his play in the consolation round after his first round loss on Friday. In his first match, Dieberger defeated Cameron Nash in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Dierberger continued his dominating play in the second match of the day, as he defeated Rusty Turpin again in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles play, the No. 39 ranked team of Baumann and Michalicka continued their run in the A draw. The two defeated the pair of Sam Garfoth-Bles and Chstopher Muller of Rice in commanding fashion 8-2 in the quarterfinal match. Later, the two took on Tulsas Victor Kolik and Phil Stephens in the semifinals. Each team played hard, and Baumann and Michalicka came out victorious as they won 9-8 in a tiebreaker. The two will conclude their doubles play on Sunday as they look for one last win against Fresno States Rudy Siwy and Mirko Zapletal in the finals.
All three Badgers will be concluding their play in Waco on Sunday--Baumann and Michalicka in the doubles tournament and Dierberger in the consolation round of the singles B draw. Check back to UWBadgers.com for the final results.
