The Wisconsin mens tennis team finished its third and final day at the Nebraska Invitational Sunday in Lincoln, Neb., as Wisconsin defeated Iowa three out of four matches.
In Singles play, Mike Goodman edged out Bart van Monsjou 7-6, 3-6, 11-9 to earn his third win of the invitational. Goodman finished the invite with a 3-2 record, prevailing earlier against Drakes Chris Lueth 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 and Denvers P.J. McGinnis 6-3, 6-0.
No. 1 singles Jeremy Sonkin also won Sunday, beating the Hawkeyes Chaitu Malempati 4-3. Saturday, Sonkin cruised to victory over Drakes Sergi Vila in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to finish the tournament with a 2-3 record.
Badger freshman Felipe Bellido defeated Iowas J.P. Ritchie 6-1, 6-2. Bellido concluded his Badger debut with team high 4-1 record.
The Badgers were scheduled to compete against Minnesota and Nebraska in doubles, but the teams agreed to not contest those matches.
Wisconsin is back in action Oct. 1-3, in Chattanooga, Tenn. at the prestigious ITA All-American.
