MADISON, Wis. -- Former UW men's tennis player Marek Michalicka will begin play in the US Open Qualifying Tournament on Tuesday, Aug. 21. The tournament consists of 128 men and 128 women competing for the final 32 entries (16 men and 16 women) in the 2012 US Open singles draws.
"Marek shows his continuous work ethic as a professional tennis player by qualifying for the tournament," said head coach Greg Van Emburgh. "It is a great accomplishment and I wish him the best of luck."
On July 9, Michalicka became Wisconsin's highest ranked ATP singles player with a 248 ranking. While at Wisconsin, the Czech Republic native was a three-time All-Big Ten selection and was the 2008 Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
