MADISON, Wis. – Billy Bertha and Fredrik Ask were selected by the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Subcommittee as one of 18 at-large bids to compete in the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Doubles Championships, it has been announced.

The 32-team tournament, held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., runs from May 23-28 following the conclusion of the 2012 NCAA Men’s Team Tennis Championships.

The tournament appearance will be the first time Bertha has played in the NCAA championships since his freshman year when the team went on to reach the 2010 Sweet 16. It does, however, mark the first time Bertha or Ask have qualified for either the singles or doubles championships.

“I'm excited to have a chance to compete for a national championship and test our skills against the best of the best in college tennis,” Bertha said.

This season the pair has put together an 11-6 record that included an impressive four wins over ranked opponents. Their signature win came against Georgia Tech when they defeated No. 2 Kevin King and Juan Spir, 8-4.

Bertha and Ask proved the upset was no fluke when they topped No. 15 Evan King and Shaun Bernstein of Michigan, 8-5, a month later.

The pair's bid into the tournament is the sixth time in the last seven years Wisconsin has sent a team or player to the NCAA championships.

All matches will be the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches.
