The Badger mens tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Penn State Saturday. Wisconsins record fell to 7-11 overall and 2-5 the Big Ten Conference competition. The Nittany Lions improved to 12-7 on the season and 3-4 in the Big Ten.
One of the few times this season, the Badgers failed to capture the doubles point. With two of the three matches forced to the tiebreaker, Penn States duos sweep the phase of the match.
PSUs Roddy Cantey and Malcolm Scatliffe upset 33rd-ranked duo senior co-captain David Hippee and junior Alex Kasarov, 8-6 at the No. 1 slot. Brad Hunter and Clint Keithley toppled UWs senior co-captain Scott Green and freshman Pete Amundson at No. 2, 9-8, while Aaron Ellis and James Crowell defeated sophomores Ward Bortz and Mark Weinig, 9-8.
In singles competition, Wisconsin took home victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spot. Green defeated Cantley at the second, 4-6, 6-4, 1-1, and Hippee took down Keithly in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0 at three.
The Badgers continue their road swing this weekend, as they face No. 19 Ohio State Sunday.
