Badgers Fall to Owls, 4-3



The Florida Atlantic's mens tennis team narrowly defeated Wisconsin on Wednesday afternoon, 4-3, in Boca Raton, Fla. The Badgers record dropped to 4-5 overall, 0-1 Big Ten, while the Owls improved to 8-5 on the season.

The UW squad swept the doubles matches, capturing the doubles point. At the No. 1 spot, 40th-ranked duo junior Alex Kasarov and senior co-captain David Hippee defeated Antonello Magris and Cristian Paiz, 8-3, while senior co-captain Scott Green and sophomore Alex Conti took down Gianfranco Dossena and Kevin Obletz, 8-5.

Also recording a victory for Wisconsin doubles, No. 3 pair sophomores Ward Bortz and Jordan Raemisch defeated David Demer and F. J. Schofield, 8-4.

In singles competition Alex Conti defeated FAUs David Demer, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7), in the tiebreaker at No. 4, while Ward Bortz took down Kevin Obletz, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 in the fifth slot.

Wisconsins top player couldnt hold off Owl Antonello Magris, as he defeated Alex Kasarov, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4. UWs David Hippee fell to FAUs Cristian Paiz, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2.

Rounding out singles match-ups, Florida Atlantics F.J. Schofield over powered Scott Green in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, while Badger Mark Weinig fell to Mauricio Paiz, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Wisconsin is in Miami for the week on its spring training trip. The squad returns to competition this weekend, as it faces Miami on Friday and Georgia Southern on Saturday. Both matches begin at 1 p.m. central time.
