The No. 74 Wisconsin mens tennis team swept its second consecutive match with a 7-0 victory against Florida Atlantic Tuesday afternoon in Boca Raton, Fla.
Wisconsin (8-4, 1-1 Big Ten) earned its fifth conseutive shutout by winning all three doubles matches before completing the sweep with six singles victories. The Badgers have swept four of their last five matches
The UW came out strong in doubles play with a pair of 8-6 victories. After the Owls submitted a default in the No. 3 doubles match, Lachezar Kasarov (Burgas, Bulgaria) and Felipe Bellido (Lima, Peru) solidified the doubles point by defeating J.P. Bounassar and Mauricio Paiz. The No. 1 tandem of Nolan Polley (Lexington, Ky.) and Jeremy Sonkin (Wheaton, Ill.) continued their unbeaten season and now stand 5-0 after defeating David Demers and Kevin Obletz in the final match to finalize Wisconsins seventh doubles point of the season.
The Badgers won five of six singles matches in straight sets. The most difficult match for UW was in the No. 2 where Polley defeated Oblatz in three sets 6-4, 6-7 (1), 1-0 (11) to complete the sweep. The UW took the No. 6 singles match from FAU by default.
Wisconsin finishes its Florida spring break trip Friday at Noon against South Florida on the Varsity Tennis Courts in Tampa.
