The University of Wisconsin mens tennis team defeated interstate rival Marquette Wednesday, 5-2. The Badgers improved their record to an even 4-4 overall, while the Golden Eagles dropped to 4-6 on the season.
Registering points in singles competition, UW junior Alex Kasarov defeated Hugo Leenders, 6-1, 7-6, at the No. 1 slot, and senior co-captain David Hippee took down Eigis Vedrickas, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2.
Also taking home victories in singles, sophomore Ward Bortz toppled Creighton Macy, 6-1, 6-3, while Mark Weinig defeated Ian Kawas, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 (4).
Wisconsin swept the doubles competition, taking all three matches. At the No. 1 spot 40th-ranked duo David Hippee and Alex Kasarov took down Hugo Leenders and Eigis Vedrickas, 8-1.
Alex Conti and Scott Green defeated Raj Gill and Creighton Macy, 8-5, at No.2, while sophomores Ward Bortz and Mark Weinig bested Ian Kawas and Troy Delmege, 8-4, at No. 3.
After Wednesdays competition, the Badgers go on a 14-day hiatus, returning to competition on Wednesday, March 17. The team travels to Miami, Fla., to face Florida Atlantic and the first serve is set for 1 p.m. The match marks the first of three duals for UW in Miami.
