Badgers give back

Feb. 28, 2014

MADISON, Wis. -- There is a strong tradition of giving back to the community within the Wisconsin athletic department and the Badgers men’s tennis team is a shining example of that. Last Saturday, Feb. 22, the team held a free youth clinic at Hitters SportsPlex in Middleton, Wis. aimed at reaching out to the Madison area and the next generation of tennis players.

The UW Players conducted a one-hour event beginning at 8 a.m. that included breakfast, as well as drills and games for Madison-area kids aged eight to 13. After the clinic, attendees were then invited to watch the Badgers practice.

“It was great to see all of the smiling faces on the young kids during the clinic,” head coach Greg Van Emburgh said. “The players really enjoyed participating in the event and having an opportunity to give back to the community.”

The 49th-ranked men’s team is 6-3 on the season and opens Big Ten competition Saturday at No. 47 Minnesota.
