No. 28 Wisconsin Falls at No. 61 Louisville



The 28th-ranked University of Wisconsin mens tennis team fell again on the road to a ranked team as it lost at No. 61 Louisville 5-2 Saturday evening in Louisville, Ky. The Cardinals took two of the three doubles matches and then claimed four of the six singles matches to claim the victory. The loss marks the fourth loss in a row to a nationally-ranked opponent.

Louisville (8-1) got on the board first when they took the doubles point. The duo of Simon Childs and Austen Childs knocked off the 26th-ranked pair of senior Jeremy Sonkin (Wheaton, Ill.) and sophomore Luke Rassow-Kantor (Westport, Conn.) 9-8 at No. 1 doubles, while Viktor Maksimcuk and Alejandro Calligari teamed up to defeat the pair of senior Nolan Polley (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Peter Marrack (Mississauga, Ontario) 8-3 at No. 3 doubles to secure the point.

The Badgers earned a victory at No. 2 doubles when sophomores Moritz Baumann (Inzlingen, Germany) and Michael Dierberger (Milwaukee, Wis.) knocked off Robert Rotaru and Pablo Camacho 8-4.

The Cardinals struck first in singles action when 36th-ranked Austen Childs won at No. 1 singles. Childs defeated Baumann, ranked No. 39, in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

The lead grew to 3-0 when Rotaru bested Dierberger at No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win.

Wisconsin (4-4) answered back though and cut the lead to 3-2 with wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles.

Sophomore Marek Michalicka (Ricany, Czech Republic) got the win at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Simon Childs, while Rassow-Kantor was victorious at No. 6 posting a 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 win over Calligari.

The UW rally fell short though as Louisville clinched the match victory with a win at the No. 2 spot. David Simon defeated No. 100 Polley 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3 to give the Cardinals the victory.

The Cardinals earned their fifth point with a win at No. 3 singles. Maksimcuk won in a tight match over Sonkin 6-7, 7-6, 7-5 to close things out.

The University of Wisconsin mens tennis team returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Nashville, Tenn. to face No. 29 Vanderbilt.
