The Badger mens tennis registered their first loss of the season Sunday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium, as they fell to Ball State 4-3. Wisconsins season record dropped to 2-1, while the Cardinals improved to 3-3 on the season.
In singles competition, No. 1 seed junior Alex Kasarov defeated Matt Baccarani 6-1, 7-6 (5), while at the No. 2 spot senior co-captain David Hippee was taken down by Matt Laramore 6-1, 6-4.
Registering points for the Badgers, senior co-captain Scott Green fought back to defeat Patrick Thompson in the tie breaker 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (5), while sophomore Ward Bortz took down Brad Rhodes 6-4, 6-3.
In other singles matches, Mike Heule downed Badger sophomore Alex Conti 7-5, 6-3, and BSUs Paul Newman defeated UW frosh Lachezar Kasarov 6-2, 6-4.
For the first time this season, UW failed to win the doubles point, dropping all three matches. At the No. 1 seed, Ball States Baccarani and Thompson upset Hippee and Alex Kasarov by the score of 9-7. The 8th-ranked Badger duo posted their first doubles loss on the season.
In other doubles match-ups, BSUs Matt Laramore and Brad Rhodes defeated Alex Conti and Scott Green 8-6, while Paul Newman and Klint Knable took down Wisconsins Lachezar Kasarov and Ward Bortz.
Wisconsin returns to the court Saturday and Sunday, as they face Western Michigan and Notre Dame. Both matches begin at 1 p.m.
