The Wisconsin mens tennis team defeated DePaul Wednesday in a 5-2 decision at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The Badgers improve their dual season record to 2-0, while the Blue Demons drop to 2-2 on the season.
UWs top doubles team, junior Alex Kasarov and senior co-captain David Hippee, took down DePauls Mark Henderson and Robert Kotroczo by the score of 8-6. The Badger duo is currently ranked eight nationally by the ITA.
Also winning in doubles for the Badgers were senior co-captain Scott Green and sophomore Alex Conti staging a 9-7 victory over Eric Huffman and Radek Guzik.
UW pair sophomore Ward Bortz and freshman Lachezar Kasarov dropped in a tie-breaker decision to Blue Demons Robert Kotroczo and George Wang by the score of 9-8 (4).
In singles play, first seed Alex Kasarov dropped Henderson in a 6-3, 7-5 decision, while Hippee defeated Kotroczo in a tie-breaker by the score of 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (6) in the second seed face-off.
Also taking home a win for Wisconsin was Green, who made quick work on Guzik, bringing him down 6-1, 6-2, while Lachezar Kasarov defeated Huffman 6-4, 6-4.
Despite coming from a 0-4 deficit in the first set to winn it 7-5, Bortz was finished off by DePauls Davidson. The Badger fell in a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 decision. Also dropping for UW was Conti, falling to Wang by the score of 6-3, 6-3.
Wisconsin concludes its home stand at Nielsen Tennis Stadium Sunday, Feb. 8, when it faces No. 62 Ball State (2-2). First serve is set for 11 a.m. and the match is free and open to the public.
