TULSA, Okla. -- Badger senior Marek Michalicka (Ricany, Czech Republic) competed in the 2010 D'Novo/ITA All-American Tennis Championships in Tulsa, Okla., this weekend. Michalicka’s tournament run ended when he fell in the consolation bracket on Friday.
Michalicka began play on Thursday afternoon, taking on Texas’ Ed Corrie. He got off to a strong start taking the first set, 6-4, but Corrie came back in the last two sets, 6-2, 6-1. Corrie moved onto the second round, and Michalicka headed to the consolation bracket.
Michalicka was paired up with Pepperdine’s Sebastian Faneslow for his second match. The sophomore proved to be too much for Michalicka, as he grabbed the 6-3 win in the first set. Michalicka challenged Faneslow in the second set but ultimately fell, 7-5.
The loss ended Michalicka’s play in the tournament but will prove to be good experience for the upcoming season as he faced two top-ranked opponents.
Michalicka and the Badgers will be back out next weekend, Oct. 15-17, as they compete in the Wildcat Fall Invitational in Evanston, Ill.
