MADISON, Wis. The Wisconsin men’s tennis team (12-11, 4-7) overcame an early deficit to defeat Nebraska, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the Nebraska Tennis Center.

The win moves UW into eighth place in the Big Ten standings and sets up a rematch against Nebraska in the opening round of the 2012 Big Ten Tournament next weekend.

Nebraska took a 1-0 lead after sweeping the Badgers in doubles.

Chris Aumueller and Tom Blackwell started the sweep for the Cornhuskers with an 8-4 victory over Quinton Vega and Alex Robles.

At No. 2 doubles, Alexander Kostanov and Rod Carey dropped their match to Benedikt Lindheim and Rober Schulze by a score of 8-3, clinching the doubles point for the Cornhuskers.

The sweep was completed when Billy Bertha and Fredrik Ask had their three-match win streak snapped due to an 8-7 (7-2) loss to Eric Sock and Andre Stenger.

After getting down 1-0, UW responded by winning the next three points to take control of the match.

Carey led the charge by earning an easy victory over Lindheim, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.

Petr Satral was the second Badger to earn a win. He scored a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Stenger to give UW its first lead of the match.

At No. 6 singles, Bertha extended his match win streak to four with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Drew Freeman, giving the Badgers a 3-1 lead.

Nebraska stopped the Badgers’ run with a victory from its No. 1 singles player, Aumueller. He topped Ask, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.

The Cornhuskers then leveled the match at 3-3 with a 7-6, 7-5 win from Robert Schulze over Vega at No. 3 singles.

The No. 5 singles match between Kostanov and Blackwell was the deciding match. Kostanov lost the first set, 6-4, but he picked up his play and won the second set 6-4 to force the match into a third set. In the third, Kostanov jumped out to an early 5-1 lead before closing out the match with a 6-2 victory.
