Wisconsin falls to No. 11 Illinois in regular-season finale

MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin men’s tennis team concluded its regular season at No. 11 Illinois on Sunday, falling, 4-1, to the Fighting Illini at the Atkins Tennis Center in Champaign, Ill.

Wisconsin’s sole win of the day came from freshman, Elliott Sprecher who defeated Brian Page with a final score of 6-3, 6-4.

Senior Petr Satral was unable to claim his match against Jared Hiltzik, falling 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 1 position.

At No. 2 singles, sophomore Alexander Kokorev fell 6-2, 7-5 to Tim Kopinski.

Sophomore Jakhongir Jalalov couldn’t gain any momentum against Blake Bazarnik, and was defeated 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot.

Due to Illinois’s clinching of the match, both junior Michael Sinha and sophomore Frederik Strabo’s matches went unfinished.

In doubles action, Kokorev and Satral were unable to claim a victory in their match against Kopinski and Ross Guignon, falling 8-2.

At No. 2, Jalalov and Strabo also came up short against Alex Jesse and Hiltzik. Their match ended with a final score of 8-5.

Sinha and Sprecher’s match against Julian Childers and Bazarnik went unfinished. The action ended at 7-3.

UW wrapped up the regular season with a 9-15 overall record, and a 1-10 Big Ten mark.

Wisconsin now looks ahead to the 2014 Big Ten Tournament, which begins on Thursday, April 24.
