MADISON, Wis. -- Despite several close matches and overall strong play, No. 58 Wisconsin fell to No. 47 South Florida, 7-0, on Wednesday at the Varsity Tennis Courts in Tampa, Fla.
Boasting two of the nation’s top doubles teams, South Florida started on the attack early. The Bulls claimed two doubles matches and securing the match’s first point.
Sophomores Oskar Wikberg and Jakhongir Jalalov fell to the No. 24 doubles team of Roberto Cid and Sasha Gozun, with a final score of 8-5.
Senior Petr Satral and sophomore Alexander Kokorev couldn’t grab the lead at No. 2 doubles against No. 69 ranked Oliver Pramming and Iganacio Gonzalez-Muniz, which ended with a final decision of 8-2.
The freshman duo of John Zordani and Elliott Sprecher’s match against Paul Polarczyk and Finn Meinecke went unfinished.
In singles action, Wikberg took 65th-ranked Cid to three sets, but ultimately fell 5-7, 6-3, 10-6.
At No. 2 singles, Kokorev was defeated by Pramming, with a final decision of 6-2, 6-4.
Satral fell to Vadym Kalyuzhnyy, in a match that ended at 6-1, 6-4.
Jalalalov came up short against Gozun. The match resulted in a final score of 6-3, 6-3.
Sprecher was defeated for the first time this season, falling 6-4, 6-3 to Gonzalez-Muniz.
Zordani wasn’t able to claim his match against Frederico Sabogal, which ended with a final decision of 6-1, 6-3.
Up next, the Badgers will return to Big Ten action as they travel to Lincoln, Neb. to face the No. 56 Cornhuskers on Friday. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. (CT).
