MADISON, Wis. – Despite several close matches and overall strong play, No. 66 Wisconsin fell to No. 60 Nebraska on Sunday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

One day after getting swept by the No. 2 team in the nation, UCLA, the Badgers were able to scratch out a few wins in their second match of the season. In doubles action, the freshmen duo of Elliott Sprecher and junior Michael Sinha defeated Dusty Boyer and Andrew Dzulynsky by a score of 6-4.

However, UW was unable to secure the doubles point when Alexander Kokorev and Petr Satral fell to Brandon Videtick and Bradford Zitsch and Johnnie Jalalov and Oskar Wikberg came up short against Marc Herrmann and Beauregard Treyz. Both matches ended with final scores of 6-3.

Playing No. 2 singles, Wikberg claimed his first victory of the 2014 season, knocking off Herrmann, 6-4, 6-4.

That was the last match the Badgers would officially win, but the match wasn’t without drama. UW took Nebraska to tie-breakers in two of their singles matches and had won sets in two of the matches that went unfinished.

Satral was defeated by Boyer, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 1 singles position. Jalalov fell to Tom Blackwell in a back and forth battle that ended with a final decision of 6-5 (5), 6-5 (5). After losing the first set in a tie-breaker, Sinha fell to Treyz, with a final result of 6-5(4), 6-3.

In Kokorev’s No. 3 singles match against Dzulynsky, he rallied back from a 4-6 first set loss to claim the second set in dominating 6-2 fashion. The match was halted in the third set with Dzulynsky leading 5-2.

Unfortunately, Sprecher’s match also went unfinished after he might have been on his way to a win. The freshman took the first set 6-2, and was tied 4-4 in the second frame.

Up next, the Badgers will face South Dakota St. in the season home opener on Saturday at 11 a.m. (CT) at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
