Billy Bertha made his debut for the Badgers at the 2009 season-opening and 34th annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Sept. 18, after leading the Midwest to the USTA Boys 18s National Team Championship over the summer. In his freshman campaign, Bertha went 20-13 in singles play, including a team-best five wins at the No. 5 singles position. Bertha moved into a leadership position as a sophomore, playing in the top half of Wisconsin's singles lineup and pairing with team captain Marek Michalicka at No. 1 doubles.
