Badgers Fall to Wildcats

The Wisconsin mens swimming and diving teams lost to the Arizona Wildcats today, with a score of 160-99. The men are now 3-1-0 overall in meets this year.

The men were led by Senior Co-Captain Adam Mania (Hickman, Neb.) winning the 100-yard backstroke (48.69), taking second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.68), second in the 100-yard butterfly (50.47) and first with the Wisconsin 400-yard freestyle relay (3:03.12).

I was really pleased on how the team looked today, said head coach Eric Hansen. We accomplished what we wanted, but still have some holes to fill.

Other notable UW swimmers were Nick Bennett (Birmingham, Ala.) winning the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.55), Tim Liebhold (Chapel Hill, N.C.) taking first in the 400-yard IM (4:02.66). Eric Weisner (Montrose, Colo.) taking second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:39.59) as well as second in the 100-yard freestyle (46.00) and first with the Wisconsin 400-yard relay team with Liebhold, Mania and Scott Speer (Fitchburg, Wis.).

The diving team was led by Justin Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa.) taking third on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards with scores of 239.09 and 227.03 respectively.

Justin was very consistent today, and has improved immensely, said diving coach Josh Seykora. It was a good meet to prepare us for the tough season ahead.

The Badgers will hit the water next with their final home meet at the UW Natatorium at 5 p.m. on Friday Nov. 5.
