The Wisconsin mens swimming and diving team was defeated by Arizona 176-85 Friday in a dual meet in Tucson, Ariz. Junior captain Tom Molzahn led the Badgers with three wins.
Molzahn finished first in every individual event he competed in against the Wildcats. He won the 200-yard freestyle after posting a time of 1:41.31 and also claimed the 200-butterfly with a mark of 1:52.75. Molzahn wrapped up the day with a win in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 4:35.56.
Tom swam really well for us today, Eric Hansen, Wisconsin head coach, said. He had good stuff out there. All-in-all, I was happy with the way we competed. We got a lot out of it.
Kyle Sorensen earned a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 21.45 while teammate Mike Hopkins finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.24). Brett Koerten also claimed a second-place showing in the 400-yard individual medley (4:07.82).
In addition, the Badger 200-yard freestyle relay team of Sorensen, Michael Desautels, Molzahn and Scott Rice finished second in 1:24.85.
Sophomore Josh Bonner finished fourth on the 1-meter board to lead the Wisconsin divers.
Josh did well and was solid for us today, Josh Seykora, Wisconsin head diving coach, said. The men need a lot of work to get to a national level. We will continue to work hard to get there.
Wisconsin (3-1, 1-0 Big Ten) will head to Bloomington, Ind., Friday for a meet against Indiana, Southern Illinois and Louisville.
